UK teen arrested for unlawful BBM, social media crackdown positive aspects steam
Lending additional gravity to the proposed crackdown being bandied about in British parliament, an Essex teen has been arrested for sending a BBM that ran afoul of the Critical Crime Act of 2007. The 18-yr previous, now free on bail, allegedly used the service to encourage copycat assaults of the violent rioting that is swept London, and is about to seem in courtroom on September 1st. It is the second recognized case to place RIM’s personal messaging service — “in style amongst city youngsters” as an affordable texting various — within the UK’s authorized hotseat. For its half, the Canadian electronics maker has since reached out to police, promising to assist the investigation “in any method [it] can.” Though no choice has but been made to increase regulation enforcement’s powers over social media providers, akin to Twitter and Fb, arrests like these appear to point a murky free speech future.
